Packaging – Pallet wrappers and stretch wrappers as a useful addition to the pallet exchange system
Fully automated inline pallet wrapping
Before manufactured goods embark on their long and bumpy journey to their destination, they must be protected as well as possible from the effects of transport. Internal and external goods traffic is often accompanied by vibrations, dust, or moisture.
This type of protection is achieved by completely wrapping the product and its carrier with an ultra-thin film. The film thickness is only 5 to 23 µm (depending on pre-stretch) and varies depending on the number of layers or wraps.
The protection requirements of the goods, the required performance, and the stresses during the subsequent transport process determine the type of packaging system and films to be selected.
The focus here is always on a stable construction, the handle carefully with the goods to be protected, and that at maximum performance taking into account the minimal space requirements.
Baust utilizes a variety of wrapping and stretch wrapping systems from renowned manufacturers, leveraging over 60 years of experience in material handling to find the optimal solution for every requirement. The packaging line can be complemented by other essential components such as strapping machines and labelers. In the pharmaceutical and food sectors, for example, pallet changers, centering stations, or disinfection stations are often integrated into the fully automated conveyor system.
This creates an indispensable key element in your logistics process.
Species of roller moths:
- turntable winder
- Rotary arm winder
- Ring winder
- Shrink packaging systems
- Hood stretcher
The goods travel along the conveyor system to a turntable element with integrated conveyor technology. A film carriage, mounted on a side-mounted tower, moves the film roll up and down to secure it during transport. The goods rotate on their own axis during this process.
These machines are characterized by a robust construction, few moving parts, and a small footprint. However, the pallet size, maximum rotational speed, and therefore the winding capacity are limited.
Up to 60 pallets per hour are possible with this system.
In this variant, the conveyor system transports the palletized goods to the wrapping machine. A film trolley is attached to a rotating arm and circles the pallet, wrapping the goods in film by a consistent up-and-down motion.
With the rotary arm winder, the goods remain stationary, enabling gentle load securing. Unlike the ring winder, where the winding ring must always move to the top position, the winding arm of the rotary arm winder can be freely positioned. This allows for higher winding capacities at high rotation speeds.
Up to 85 pallets per hour are possible with this system.
This wrapping process utilizes a well-established rotary ring system. In this packaging method, a film trolley is also moved around the product. However, this trolley is mounted on a vertically moving ring system. The machine operates almost silently and has a modular design.
Freely selectable winding programs with variable film end and film start, as well as a frequency-controlled speed of the ring unit, enable ideal adaptation to different packaging requirements and throughput capacities.
Up to 150 pallets per hour are possible with this system.
These systems are capable of covering pallets on conveyor systems with a hood. A film tube is unwound from a roll and then pulled over the goods to form a hood. Cutting the film tube from the roll simultaneously seals the hood. With hood stretchers, the film is pulled over the goods under tension, whereas shrink wrapping operates without pre-tension. However, shrink wrapping involves subsequent heat treatment to conform the film to the goods.
This 5-sided protection optimally safeguards goods against dirt, moisture, and theft. Any barcode labels on the goods can still be read despite the film wrapping. Thanks to their compact design, these machines can accommodate up to four different film formats while requiring minimal space.
Up to 200 pallets per hour are possible with this system.
